Beth Orton has spent more than three decades making music that resists easy definition, moving from the pioneering folktronica of Trailer Park through to the dreamlike, self-produced Weather Alive.

Her latest album, The Ground Above, marks a shift into something more direct and grounded, exploring survival, grief, love, identity and renewal. Self-produced and deeply collaborative, it brings together musicians including Shahzad Ismaily, Sam Beste, Tom Skinner, Dave Okumu and Adrian Utley.

Across the record, Beth’s voice moves from intimate and whispered to raw and powerful, while the music draws on everything from spiritual jazz and improvisation to classic songcraft.

It’s music shaped by experience, connection and the courage to begin again.
