Mazbou Q

Mazbou Q is a UK-born, Tāmaki Makaurau based Nigerian artist and producer. Stemming from his background in classical, heavy metal and West African Highlife, Mazbou Q's particular brand of Hip-hop challenges the very notion of genre. It captivates those with a deep appreciation for musicality. Mazbou Q takes inspiration from the likes of Fela Kuti, The Roots and Black Star, as he confronts his listeners with socio-political commentary and creatively engages them in the complexities of his unique cultural identity.

2020 marked Mazbou Q's re-introduction to the scene after a rebrand from his previous moniker Unchained XL. He had completed an international tour and shared the stage with artists such as Mungos Hi-Fi, Eva Lazarus and Afro Cluster. After evolving beyond his once signature mix of Afrofunk and old school Hip-hop, Mazbou Q released the highly acclaimed 'AFROTERNITY' EP in May. This collection of six tracks established his current modern and genre-bending direction, accompanied by his distinct Afrofuturism aesthetic.

With the release of his 2021 self-produced full-length album 'THE FUTURE WAS.', Mazbou Q has solidified himself both a musical powerhouse and an intelligent lyricist.
