As part of the World of Words programme, New Zealand winemaker Allan Scott joins as at WOMAD 2018 for an intimate session of wine tasting and storytelling. Sample a selection of wines from Allan’s Generations series while hearing about the wine he’s made and the stories that surround the industry he’s grown to love. Each sample will be paired with hors d'oeuvres, designed to complement the elegant flavours of each wine.
As told in Allan Scott's autobiography, Marlborough Man, Allan first ventured into pioneer viticulture in Marlborough, in 1973, when the first grapes were commercially established in what was to become an iconic wine growing province in New Zealand and throughout the world. Allan's lifetime of hard work, passion, and dedication has seen him grow and produce some of Marlborough’s best vines and develop local techniques which are now the basis of standard viticultural practice in New Zealand. Having established the first vines over 40 years ago, and the Allan Scott wine label in 1990, Allan Scott Family Wines and Estates Limited is now one of New Zealand’s larger, fully integrated, family wine operations.
The Generations Series wines are single-vineyard sourced and made from the best grapes grown on the Scott family’s own estate. These elegant wines are the result of low-yield vines, meticulous viticulture and special attention in the cellar. Due to the exacting standards, these wines are only produced in limited quantities.
