The Living Library contains Human Books (people on loan), for FREE, who are taken out by a Reader (person borrowing the Book) for 30-60 minutes to explore the Books topic.
The Living Library enables Human Books with a story to tell and their Readers, to break stereotypes by challenging prejudices in a positive and often humorous manner. The Living Library is designed to promote dialogue, reduce prejudices, encourage understanding and widen people's view on life, in a space set up for interaction through conversation.
It breaks down barriers so that communities can build tolerance and understanding of one another, even if they don’t agree with each other’s chosen way of life.
You'll find the Living Library in the Kunming Garden – head on over to the tent next to the Pagoda - review the Human Book titles on offer, chat to the Librarians about which Book interests you, and make a time to borrow the Human Book of your choice. Human Books are loaned out for 30-60 minutes on Saturday and Sunday between noon – 6pm. You can make appointments on Friday 5pm - 8pm and again on Saturday and Sunday noon - 6pm. Get in quick, the Books 'sold out' last year.
Look for this year’s Human Book titles on the Living Library page in your WOMAD programme.
