STAGE SCHEDULE RELEASED
Heavy hitters from the music world take the WOMAD stage in Taranaki from Friday 6pm March 18th to Sunday night March 20th.
Nu jazz genius, St Germain will groove the Bwl of Brooklands stage in his only NZ performance on Friday night as will tex-mex Americana band Calexico. Satuday night promises some great party vibes with – Seun Kuti & Egypt 80 from Nigeria followed by the inimitable De La Soul. And Sunday will serve up the revered South African vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, American baritone troubadour John Grant and on her farewell tour, the most recorded woman in music history - Asha Bhosle.
WOMAD Co-Artistic Director, Emere Wano comments, “We've burnt the midnight oil since festival 2015 and are over the moon to present another fabulous line up of known names, alongside an array of amazing and eclectic artists for you to discover. As experienced WOMAD go-ers will tell you, planning to the nth degree is not a pre- requisite for having a great time at the festival but this year you may want to take note of a couple highlights!”
As always with WOMAD, the full three day schedule is chock-full of the very best musicians from around the world with over 400 artists at WOMAD representing 23 countries.
