Ibibio Sound Machine

UK

Fronted by Nigerian singer Eno Williams, Ibibio Sound Machine is a clash of African and electronic elements inspired in equal measure by the golden era of West-African funk, disco, modern post-punk and electro. The eight-member ensemble formed in London in 2013 and went on to take club culture by storm. They have now released four studio albums including
the highly acclaimed Electricity (2022). The band’s name comes from the language Ibibio, which was the native tongue of Williams’ mother. She sings in both Ibibio and English, marrying them with modern themes and an edgy Afro-electric soundscape. Based in London, the band currently consists of vocalist Eno Williams, guitarist Alfred Kari Bannerman, percussionist Afla Sackey , drummer Joseph Amoako, bassist Philip PK Ambrose, trombonist/keyboardist Tony Hayden, trumpeter/keyboardist Scott Baylis and saxophonist/keyboardist Max Grunhard.
